According to Harvard Business Review, "A successful off-site can align executives, galvanize corporate performance, and strengthen the company’s position in its industry." Yet too many leaders think of an offsite as a "warm and fuzzy" team meet-up and plan golf outings or dinners with no clear agenda or measurable outcomes.
Working with an experienced facilitator can ensure your leadership offsite is successful at addressing your real-world challenges, including helping your team improve collaboration and teamwork, and strengthen problem-solving, decision-making, and productivity.
Effective offsites are an opportunity to focus on both what a team needs to achieve - strategic outcomes and planning - and how the team is operating, including addressing key issues that may be standing in the way of team effectiveness. We will work together to plan your offsite using the following approach:
Understand Your Needs: Our initial discussion will include getting aligned on the current situation for your team and your business, as well as logistical questions around timing and scope. Some questions we will consider:
Discuss Options: There is rarely enough time to accomplish everything in one setting. I will share options and recommendations on various approaches we can use to ensure your most important topics and issues are addressed.
Pre-work: Most successful offsites include some amount of pre-work for participants. We will partner on what this looks like for your team, including materials and logistics.
Facilitation: I will be the primary facilitator, but will ensure full partnership and collaboration with the leader of the team. There may be certain areas where the leader or a team member may be the right person to lead the discussion.
Follow-Up: In addition to reference materials, we will discuss next steps and how I can help with agreed-upon action items.
Insights Discovery is a validated workplace preference assessment that helps individuals and teams learn about others’ preferences, tendencies and ideal work environment. Team members will take an individual assessment, then participate in a guided discussion about understanding self and each other, and working more effectively as a team.
Based on Patrick Lencioni’s Five Dysfunctions of a Team, this team assessment and facilitated discussion helps teams become more cohesive and effective by helping them understand and address their most critical issues.
A key role of leadership is to articulate a clear and compelling vision for the future of the business. This exercise is designed to help your team align on and create a blueprint for your future vision.
A facilitated session may help your team establish a charter to align on your shared vision and define agreed-upon behaviors. Outcomes of using a team charter include increased accountability and improved team cohesiveness.
